Northwell Health Plainview Hospital
Façade Modernization and Rainscreen
Plainview, New York
Constructed in phases beginning in the 1950s, Plainview Hospital sought to develop a cohesive and modern look to the hodgepodge of structures. BAM drew inspiration from the prominent site on one of Long Island’s major avenues – addressing both the view from the avenue as well as the approach from the parking areas. Key to the design was a clear sense of entry to guide patients and visitors alike to the major entry points. The visitor entrance is a tower emanating light as a beacon welcoming all. Walking toward the entry, patients and visitors pass a lush living wall that is a key element of the sustainable design goals of the project. The project is designed in BIM and other advanced technologies to capture and analyze a wide range of information, streamline the design process, and effectively convey a cohesive design.
