Yale New Haven Health
Pediatric Cardio Catheterization Lab
New Haven, CT
This Hybrid Operating Room was one of the first in North America and the very first at Yale, combining medical imaging, catheter-based intervention and surgery in one space. The combination of these technologies allow doctors to better treat their patients by making repairs as soon as an issue arises.
Keeping with the goals of BAM to incorporate green technologies into our work, the laboratory was designed using sustainable materials that survive the long-term, daily use of the space. BAM values improving the patient experience through design, and gave patients the opportunity to control their operating environment.
An installation of color-changing LED lights behind frosted glass allows patients to choose the room color, creating calmer patients who require lower levels of anesthesia. This room was a prototype that went on to influence the design of several other hybrid operating rooms BAM and Yale have partnered on.
